Recent redistricting changes have connected the Farmington area more with Southfield. And several candidates are running to represent the two major areas in the state House in Lansing. The new 18th House District contains all of Lathrup Village, the eastern portion of Farmington Hills, most of Farmington and Southfield, as well as a very small portion of Oak Park. Previously, each community and the nearby smaller towns were in its own district. Two Democrats are running to have their name on the ballot in the November election: Southfield City Councilman Jason Hoskins and Caprice Jackson, who has worked as a staffer in several state legislators offices.
